Declan Rice sent West Ham youngster Nathan Holland an Instagram message after the 20-year-old was an unused substitute against Manchester United.

Manuel Pellegrini opted to name Holland in his Hammers squad for the clash with Man United, but didn’t opt to use him from the bench so that the 20-year-old could make his first appearance for the first-team this season.

Holland however took to Instagram to share how happy he was just to be involved.

“Great to be involved today. The lads deserved more for sure!!” wrote Holland on his personal Instagram account.

This prompted Rice to send Holland a supportive two-word message by commenting on the winger’s picture to say “It’s coming” via his verified Instagram account.

OPINION

It’s odd that Pellegrini didn’t deploy Holland from the bench during the 2-1 loss to Manchester United, but hopefully Hammers fans won’t have to wait long to see him in action. The 20-year-old has long been one of the players tipped to step up from the academy to break into the first-team set-up and there is probably anticipation building about seeing him. Holland is a left-sided winger with slick dribbling skills and seems to have that little bit of attacking flair that Hammers fans love to see. The 20-year-old is yet to feature for Pellegrini’s side this season but he did previously make his senior debut for the Hammers when he featured in the League Cup against Bolton in 2017. However you’d back the player to feature for the first-team in the near future, not just because Rice has given his approval on Instagram but because the Hammers boss must think highly of him to even consider the idea of unleashing him against Man United.
