Mark Lawrenson has predicted a second successive loss for West Ham United when they travel to take on Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Monday night.

The Hammers were subjected to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Everton last time out, while the Blues come off the back of an impressive 3-0 win over Brighton on Wednesday night – and the BBC pundit has predicted that West Ham will fall to yet another 2-0 loss.

He says that the Irons’ inconsistent form at the moment has made their games very hard to predict, regardless of the opposition they are facing.

“I feel sorry for West Ham manager Manuel Pellegrini. He puts his team out one week and they are are really, really good. They look like a good top-10 side. And then the next match they look like they have never met each other,” he told the BBC Sport website.

“People might question Pellegrini’s ability to motivate his players, but it can’t be that. He will say the same things every week to get them going, and one week it works and the next week it doesn’t.

“I just don’t get it – but it makes it very hard to predict the Hammers’ results, whoever they are playing.”

OPINION

Lawrenson has hit the nail on the head here – West Ham’s results are one of the hardest to predict at the moment, as they are pretty unpredictable. Like he points out, one week they are a decent top ten side, the next week the players look like they have never performed together. It really is very baffling and you will never know how they will play from week to week. The number of changes Pellegrini made in the loss to Everton last weekend did not help matters though, as he decided to play the likes of Lucas Perez instead of Javier Hernandez. Fans will certainly have their fingers crossed that he does not repeat the same line up, as they could pay for it against a rampant Chelsea side. That being said, the Blues winning 2-0 at home to West Ham seems like the most probable result based on how the two sides have been recently.
