West Ham United Midfielder Carlos Sanchez has revealed he has been passed fit for the Hammers last games of the season and is looking to make an imminent return to the squad.

Football.London writer Sam Inkersole wrote on his personal twitter account on Tuesday afternoon that the Colombian central midfielder will be ready for the last three fixtures of the season after missing eight months with a serious knee injury.

Sanchez, 33, said he was, ‘happy to be back’ after a spell which has not seen him feature since September. The holding midfield player went off injured 10 minutes into the 8-0 thrashing of Macclesfield Town in the League Cup.

Prior to that Sanchez had started two of West Ham’s first five league matches.

OPINION

Carlos Sanchez’ presence has not been sorely missed by West Ham since the emergence of Declan Rice has been so successful. The Colombian has never really made a huge impact at the London Stadium and his stint at the London club could soon be coming to to the end. His contract comes to an end in 2020 and that will be the time to move on and this injury can be seen as a reason to release Sanchez for Manuel Pellegrini. Carlos Sanchez’ only chance of getting an extension is to make an impact in the remaining games which will be highly unlikely. The news of West Ham’s recent interest in German midfielder Kerem Demirbay from Hoffenheim is an indicator that the Hammers midfield is a place of concern for the board and players such as Carlos Sanchez will be the first to be shown the exit door come the summer.
