Soccer Saturday reporter and West Ham United supporter Bianca Westwood has issued a cheeky response to the Hammers faithful’s new chant.
The supporters at the London Stadium unveiled a new chant on Saturday about the club’s high profile addition of a new claret-coloured carpet surrounding the pitch at the ground.
“Ha I love it,” she wrote on her personal Twitter account in response to a tweet about the new chant. “We can definitely cut the rug to that! #newcarpet.”

This new carpet surrounding the London Stadium pitch has become quite the topic of conversation, hasn’t it? To be fair, that’s probably because the club itself has made such a big deal about it. It is a step in the right direction in making the ground feel more like West Ham’s home, of course, but it is just a carpet after all. This isn’t the signal for the start of a period of West Ham dominance in the Premier League, that’s for sure. However, the addition of the carpet has lead to some humorous moments, most notably Michail Antonio’s hilarious celebration after opening the scoring against Leicester City on Saturday. He went straight over to the carpet and began stroking it lovingly, to the delight of the club’s supporters. Then we had the chant shown above. It’s a good one, highlighting the absurdity of how big a deal this carpet situation has become. It likely won’t be a chant that remains in circulation for a long time, but for now it’s a nice addition to the supporters’ canon.
