West Ham United midfielder Samir Nasri is expected to return to first team action against Chelsea next Monday, according to Claret & Hugh.

The reliable Hammers news source claims that the 31-year-old missed Saturday’s defeat to Everton with a calf injury, but that he is expected to be back at Stamford Bridge.

The former Manchester City man has made just six appearances since joining the club in January as injuries have stunted his progress at the London Stadium.

OPINION

This is tremendous news for West Ham supporters everywhere. Nasri hasn’t been perfect in his six appearances for the club, but he’s shown enough to indicate that the could make a big difference to Manuel Pellegrini’s team moving forward. His last performance, off the bench against Huddersfield Town, was bursting with promise and suggested that he can provide the creativity from open play that the Hammers have been sorely lacking in the second half of the season. Felipe Anderson has gone off the boil and Manuel Lanzini doesn’t quite look like he’s back up to full speed yet, so it may fall to Nasri to provide the cutting edge the team have been missing. West Ham certainly looked lost without him against Everton, although it’s doubtful that the Frenchman could have done anything to change what was a woeful team performance on Saturday. Still, having Nasri back against a vulnerable-looking Chelsea side could be a recipe for success for the Hammers.
