West Ham are hopeful that Ryan Fredericks will be available for the clash against Chelsea next Monday after being forced out of the defeat to Everton through injury, according to Football.London.

The football news website claim that despite being ruled out versus the Toffees, which ended 2-0 to Marco Silva’s men at the London Stadium, through an injury picked up on the training ground, the 26-year-old right back is expected to be fit enough for the trip to Stamford Bridge.

Fredericks has had injuries plague his first season in east London, managing to make just 10 Premier League appearances since his move from Fulham.

Opinion

Fit or not, there is no guarantee that Fredericks will even be part of the squad for when the Hammers take on the Blues. He has not been very impressive when he has played and while Pablo Zabaleta has not done much to impress either, his experience seems to have earned him the nod over his counterpart at the London Stadium. If Fredericks does not impress between now and the end of the season, could that cast his future at the club into doubt? At his age he should be battling to be the number one right back at the Hammers but he has fallen like a lead balloon down the pecking order. There is no point him staying on or the club keeping him if he is not going to play regularly, and it could well be that this is a one season stay for him before he finds a new challenge elsewhere.
