West Ham United left back Aaron Cresswell has had a strange season. Dropped for the hapless Arthur Masuaku earlier in the campaign, he enjoyed a resurgence over the Christmas period.

Now, though, it appears that the dark days have returned for the England international. Anyway who witnessed the 29-year-old’s horror show of a performance in his team’s 2-0 defeat to Everton will surely agree with that sentiment.

The former Ipswich Town man was absolutely woeful against the Toffees. He couldn’t get anything going, stuck in the mud and seemingly unable to cope with the offensive capabilities of Richarlison and Seamus Coleman.

The Everton double act gave Cresswell the run around, especially for the visitor’s second goal at the London Stadium. The Republic of Ireland international got away from the left back far too easily, before teeing up Bernard for the goal that ended up putting the game to bed.

You don’t expect someone like Cresswell, an experienced defender with decent pace, to be beaten so easily by his opposing full back. It simply wasn’t good enough and it enabled Marco Silva’s side to put the game to bed.

The Englishman was so bad that it would be no surprise to see Pellegrini go back to Masuaku for the tam’s next fixture away at London rivals Chelsea. We all know how bad Masuaku can be, which tells you everything about what a paltry effort Cresswell produced on Saturday.

It’s back to the drawing board for the West Ham star after this desperate display, that’s for sure. Cresswell needs to take a long hard look in the mirror, because he wasn’t good enough against the Toffees.
