With West Ham United striker Marko Arnautovic reportedly on the brink of an exit, you would not blame the club for looking at potential replacements should he leave.

After all, the Austrian forward is one of the main sources of attacking threat in the Hammers side, so finding a player good enough to take his place would be of the most paramount importance.

A player they should focus on in this transfer window is RB Leipzig attacker Timo Werner, a player the club have enquired about before according to insider exWHUemployee on his personal Twitter account.

The 22-year-old star has netted 13 goals in 21 games in all competitions for the Bundesliga side this term, which is exactly the type of goal tally that the Hammers would want to add to their ranks.

The insider may claim that the Irons’ chances of signing Werner are “very slim”, but that does not stop them attempting to swoop for the in-form forward.

They would strike gold by getting such a player on the books, and given that RB Leipzig could offer the player a new deal worth around £100,000-a-week according to German outlet Bild, it is not like they would not be able to match such a figure.

Arnautovic leaving would not be considered such a bleak prospect if Manuel Pellegrini pulled off the capture of Werner, and seeing as the Bundesliga is one of the best leagues in Europe, Werner would have no problem replicating his current form in the Premier League.

West Ham may have to pull out all of the stops to acquire such a signing, especially if he has been offered such a tempting contract.

Nevertheless, a move to the Premier League may prove too tempting for him, as this is something which the Hammers must use to their advantage.

West Ham are in need of a marquee striker signing if Arnautovic does leave for China, and Werner is just the player to make fans drool.
