COMMENTARY
West Ham attacker Marko Arnautovic was the subject of a £35million from an unspecified Chinese club according to Sky Sports on Wednesday, and many supporters were left bemused by the whole story. Several were puzzled why the in-form 29-year-old would want to move to China and not a team in the Champions League, while others were concerned that the fee suggested Arnautovic’s suitors were only after his left leg. Then there were some supporters baffled by the price but instead of joking about what part of Arnautovic the Chinese club wanted to buy, starting name their price. One even claimed it would be a done deal if a £60million offer was tabled and it’s easy to see why one fan held that opinion. While Arnautovic is an important player for Manuel Pellegrini’s side, no one is bigger than the club and an offer anywhere north of £50million has to be considered. The Hammers would have to act quickly to get a suitable replacement through the doors in January, but they’d definitely have the funds to do so if they sold their key player.
