Andy Carroll must seize the opportunity to become West Ham’s star man up top if Javier Hernandez and Marko Arnautovic depart.

It wasn’t too long ago that doubts were raised over the England international’s future with the Hammers, with constant injuries limiting his chances, and the Mexican and the Austrian both in fine form.

Developments in recent weeks, however, would suggest that both could be on their way out of the club, and that could open the door for Carroll to pounce.

According to Sky, Hernandez has agreed personal terms with Valencia over a potential move this month, while Arnautovic’s protracted transfer saga over a switch to the Far East continues to rumble on, with the Sun suggesting that the 29-year-old could seal his deal before the end of the week.

If these reports are to be believe then they could represent the perfect opportunity for the towering 6ft 4in striker Carroll to re-establish himself as the Hammers’ primary danger man.

The big Geordie poses a nuisance that few other forwards in the Premier League do, and has proven time and the again how much of a handful he can be.

With quality delivery from Felipe Anderson and Robert Snodgrasson the flanks he could be a real danger, and would surely flourish now that he’s back to full fitness.

Chances are the Hammers will still look to strengthen if Hernandez and Arnautovic leave, but Carroll could really stake a claim as the main man at the London Stadium.
