West Ham United must join the reported race for Eintracht Frankfurt defender Jetro Willems in the January transfer window, as the Hammers could really do with another left-back among their ranks.

It is widely known that Arthur Masuaku and Aaron Cresswell have not been up to scratch this season, so the need for reinforcements in this position is surely greater than ever.

Masuaku has been woeful, while Cresswell has hardly presented himself as the most worthy of replacements.

This means that a search for a new, quality left-back must be on the cards – and Manuel Pellegrini must look no further than Willems.

The Daily Mail report that he is being chased by Newcastle as well as Roma, but it is the Hammers who could benefit the most with his addition.

The impressive 24-year-old has been a mainstay in the Bundesliga this season with 16 appearances to his name, and considering that two clubs are already after him, he must have the quality to thrive in the Premier League.

The London Stadium would be his ideal destination as he could walk straight into Pellegrini’s starting XI with ease thanks to his displays in Germany.

The right-back position may be important in terms of finding new reinforcements – after all, the likes of Ryan Fredericks are injured – but the fact that the left-back role has two players with little ability is actually rather worrying.

Willems could just be the answer to this conundrum, so West Ham must make moving for him in January one of their main priorities.

The fans would no doubt go wild if their club won the race for the left-sided flyer, and the fact he will be allowed to leave for the right price – he cost around £4.5 million in 2017 – is an added bonus.

Other to you, Pellegrini.
