West Ham United striker Andy Carroll could feature on Celtic’s shopping list in the January transfer window, according to the Sunday Post.

The newspaper reports on its website that the 29-year-old senior player has been identified as a potential option alongside Bournemouth forward Jermain Defoe, with Carroll having been linked with the Hoops previously.

The report says that Celtic have told agents they are seeking to sign two strikers in the New Year because of Leigh Griffiths being absent due to personal problems.

Carroll is now fit to play this season after suffering from a bout of injury problems, but he remained on the bench against Watford.

OPINION

To be honest, West Ham fans would hardly fret if Andy Carroll ended up going to a place like Celtic in January. He is even struggling for game now, despite the fact that both Lucas Perez and Marko Arnautovic have been injured for a while. This is rather worrying for him personally, especially as he is fit and available to play at the moment. The best thing for Carroll is to move away either in January or in the summer, as it is the best thing that can happen in his career at the moment.  The thing is though, Carroll is hardly ever fit anymore. He may be at the moment, but that does not guarantee that he will suffer another knock that could sideline him for even longer. Celtic would be making a big risk by moving for Carroll if his injury record is anything to go by – but if they can keep him fit, then he is a striker who they can really rely upon.
