OPINION
Nantes forward Emiliano Sala would be a welcomed addition to West Ham’s squad in January but the London club now need to rev up their pursuit for him as it seems Cardiff City are currently leading the race for his signature.
The Daily Mail first reported the Hammers as being keen on the 28-year-old hotshot in November, alongside Everton, Wolves and Fulham, yet it seems the Bluebirds have come out of nowhere to be the most likely destined for him.
According to France Football the Hammers’ Premier League rivals now lead the race for Sala due to having already had discussions surrounding the player’s future.
Yet it would be disappointing if Manuel Pellegrini wasn’t set to welcome Sala to the London Stadium anytime soon, as he can deliver the goods in order to help the side’s cause.
The Hammers have been amongst the goals lately but they could still do with a clinical forward to aid their push for a top-10 finish in the second half of the season.
Given that Sala has scored 13 goals in 16 outings for Nantes this season and that according to France Football’s report it’s the Ligue 1 side’s last chance to make a huge profit on him, then he seems like the ideal forward to recruit who will actually be available.
However with Cardiff City already having discussions, which shows how much they want him, the Hammers can’t wait around deliberating whether to go all out for him as next thing you know he could be a member of Neil Warnock’s side.
And when you consider that the Hammers are probably a more tempting prospect for Sala to join then Cardiff, despite them defying expectations currently, this could be a relatively easy deal to get done once the club hammer out an agreement with Nantes.
So this all means that the Hammers need to rev up their pursuit since Cardiff have started to act in the race for Sala, as the forward could be very helpful to Pellegrini in 2019.
