West Ham are reportedly in the race to borrow the services of Liverpool forward Dominic Solanke with Huddersfield Town and for that reason they should abandon their pursuit.

According to The Sun earlier this month, the Hammers along with Crystal Palace were interested in taking the 21-year-old on loan with the Reds keen to send him to a club where he’d get adequate game time.

Sky Sports have since claimed that the Terriers are in the fight for Solanke with the Hammers and Crystal Palace still in the mix also, and it’s clear they have a trump card to play.

As the broadcaster points out Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has a close relationship with David Wagner and the Terriers can easily exploit that to give them the upper hand when it comes to Solanke.

The promising forward may not have featured for Klopp this season but after playing 27 times in his 2017/18 campaign, the German boss clearly rates him.

This means that Klopp will want Solanke in the best hands possible and given how well he knows Wagner then that makes Huddersfield Town look like the perfect destination for the forward.

Also given that Sky Sports point out Huddersfield are likely to be nearly exclusively looking in the loan market for new recruits, then they are going to throw everything they have a getting quality player like Solanke.

While the Premier League attacker could do a job for the Hammers under Manuel Pellegrini, it’s clear they might be facing a losing battle with Huddersfield keen to get him.

This means instead of wasting time trying to convince the powers that be at Anfield to send Solanke to London, the Hammers should abandon their pursuit now and identify other targets.

Doing this would allow the Hammers to work quickly in the summer and bring the forward who is needed to provide competition for first-choice option Marko Arnautovic.
