West Ham have the option to recall midfielder Marcus Browne from his loan spell at Oxford United January but are extremely unlikely to do so, according to Claret & Hugh.

The Hammers insider report that while the 20-year-old is currently in form while playing for the League One side, the Premier League club probably won’t bring him to the London Stadium in January as the plan was always to give him time to develop while on loan.

Claret & Hugh claim that Browne is unlikely to be recalled even though the Hammers have midfield issues and are set to search for solutions in the January market.

OPINION

The 20-year-old Hammers prospect scored twice on Tuesday and has been in excellent form ever since joining the U’s on loan. Browne has scored four times in 15 league appearances and racked up two assists to help Oxford try and steer away from the relegation zone. The exciting Hammers gem’s form has impressively not overly faltered at any point and that’s even when you consider that he was stuck on the sidelines for a few games due to injury. It’s good to hear Browne won’t be recalled despite the Hammers struggling for options in midfield, mainly due to injury woes, as it’s better for his development if he is regularly playing. The in-form prospect clearly is learning a lot while on loan, even if he makes it look easy at times, and will hopefully return to the club in the summer in order to push for a place in Manuel Pellegrini’s first-team squad.
