Former West Ham United striker Carlton Cole has delivered his verdict on Samir Nasri, a player that the club are reportedly trying to get on their books.

Hammers boss Manuel Pellegrini has been weighing up a move for the ex-Manchester City player, who has been banned from competitive action for 18 months since 2016.

Having not played for a while, Nasri has had to train with the Irons in a bid to demonstrate that he has the fitness required according to BBC Sport, and Cole reckons that he will be able to provide something different to the squad if he does make the move.

“I think the manager has a good relationship with him. We know his class, he’s a classy player. He will bring something different to the squad and he has that experience too,” the ex-England international told Sky Sports.

“It will be a great addition to the squad but it depends what the manager wants and what the owners want.”

OPINION

What is Cole going on about here? Nasri has not been in competitive action since 2016, so he would be nowhere near being the “classy player” Cole has labelled him as here. Yes, he was decent when he played for City, but being absent from the game for a long time is going to have a serious effect on his overall ability. He will not add anything to what West Ham have already got, and in all seriousness, he is a waste of time and effort. Pellegrini knows him from his City days but it seems as though his thoughts have become a bit blurred as a result – Nasri is not at the standard required for the Premier League any more, so surely a manager with his experience would be able to recognise that. The Irons are a lot better than Nasri right now – so the last thing that they would want go and do is hinder their progress with an underwhelming signing.
