A section of West Ham United fans have taken to Twitter to react to the news that the club will be able to sell additional seats for their matches.
As confirmed by the club’s official website and Twitter, the Hammers have agreed with their landlord E20 a plan that would allow the club to increase its capacity to 66,000 – a plan which would see it become the biggest in London and the second biggest in the top-flight.

Many Irons supporters have not been very encouraged by the news, with some comments including “more plastic fans then” and “this should make Marko stay”.
COMMENTARY
This news should have pleased the majority of West Ham fans – after all, it means that more of them will be able to go and buy tickets for matches. However, it is easy to see where this set of supporters are coming from, as extending the capacity can often have the opposite desired effect. Like one fan pointed out, it will attract more ‘plastic fans’ to the ground, something which this Twitter user was no doubt trying to avoid. Nevertheless, the plan that has been agreed with the landlords is reported to bring in more additional revenue for the club, which is a positive to take away from the fans who are not encouraged by the idea. There is the issue of filling empty seats though, which was reinforced by one of the fans here, who says that the club cannot even fill all of its seats now, let alone when the capacity is extended.
