Sam Allardyce did not have kind words to say after broadcaster Ian Abrahams made an outlandish claim about West Ham United.

The broadcaster told talkSPORT’s ‘Alan Brazil Breakfast Show’ that it is not all about winning points at West Ham, claiming that entertaining football at the London Stadium is just as important as the results.

Allardyce – who previously managed the Irons – did not take too kindly to this claim, hitting out at Abrahams by questioning him with “when was the last time West Ham played the West Ham way?”

“Shut up you balloon. Have you been playing the West Ham way recently, have you? When was the last time West Ham played the West Ham way?” he told the Alan Brazil Breakfast Show.

“It’s only the mischievous few who start the ball rolling, you know. Knees Up Mother Brown…Get him off air when I’m on, get him off. You’re embarrassing me now. I’m a professional, Moose, get off. Get rid of him. Don’t put him on with me again, will you? For God’s sake, man.”

OPINION

In Allardyce’s defence, the claim that Abrahams made is completely ludicrous. Yes, the West Ham fans want to see some entertaining football, but that should not be deemed as important as getting good results. Allardyce should know about this all too well – he was complained at by the Everton fans for playing boring football, even though he guided them to eighth place in the Premier League. No wonder he has got so angry with the broadcaster – it is a very bold claim to make. He claims that Manuel Pellegrini is not delivering the attacking football that is associated with the clubs he has previously been in charge of – yes, he is right, but he must remember that he guided them out of the rut that saw them lose five games on the bounce. Without him, they may be struggling to find their way out of the relegation zone.
