West Ham United were on a roll until two consecutive defeats smacked them straight in the face – and their woes only look set to continue.

Hammers’ star Andriy Yarmolenko was injured in the clash with Tottenham on Saturday, crying out in pain before he was stretchered off – and insider ExWHUemployee has revealed that he is now out for the rest of the season.

However, despite the fact that fans will no doubt be horrified in light of this news, the concerns raised by legendary commentator John Motson will cause them to sweat buckets.

Speaking to Talk Sport [22/10, 2.34pm], he said: “The worry for West Ham now is Yarmolenko, because he got carried off with a very nasty-looking Achilles injury. I tell you what, it doesn’t get any better for West Ham because not only might it be his season, but Lanzini’s showing no sign of coming back and he’s still out for a long while.

“So, that would rather decimate their creative, sort of, core of the team if you know what I mean.”

Yarmolenko was one of the Irons’ most prominent of creative outlets, so the fact that Motson is worried that their creative flair will all but disappear without him is very worrying indeed.

Felipe Anderson is not having the best start to life at the London Stadium, so it is not like the supporters can look to him to provide the goods in the Ukrainian’s absence.

If anything, Motson is spot on with his concern, and it is glaringly obvious that West Ham will really struggle without him on the pitch.

The difference the the 6ft 3in [Transfermarkt] star made on his debut against Everton all but sums up his contribution, so these next few matches will be very testing times for Manuel Pellegrini.

Nevertheless, West Ham fans have a right to be sweating buckets after these comments – even though they will be praying that they will not come true.
