West Ham United are eyeing a move for Atlanta attacking midfielder Miguel Almiron in January and could see the American side offload him for their own transfer benefit, according to TyC Sports.

The Argentinian outlet reports on their website that there is the possibility that Almiron will be sold to the Hammers in the January transfer window so that Atlanta can have the funds to sign Gonzalo Martinez from Argentine club Lanus, with the Sun having reported the Irons’ interest in the maestro in the summer.

So far this year, the 5ft 8in [Transfermarkt] star has netted 12 goals in 33 appearances for the MLS side, and he has already won 13 caps for Paraguay.

OPINION

It comes as no surprise that West Ham are after Almiron in the January transfer window. Their hunt for the attacking midfielder makes even more sense now that Andriy Yarmolenko has been ruled out for the rest of the season. Why wouldn’t West Ham want him? His statistics speak for themselves, so the Hammers must get the ball rolling come January, as there will be other teams who will no doubt be interested in a swoop for the 24-year-old. The Irons would be bagging themselves an absolute talent if they secured the capture of Almiron, and they will surely be the envy of their rivals if they were able to do so. Given that Yarmolenko is injured, the competition for places will not so fierce, so there is no doubt he will be guaranteed regular first team football if West Ham decided to continue their pursuit of him. Manuel Pellegrini will be excited at the possibility of landing Almiron – especially if he was able to replicate his current form for the team.
