West Ham United’s worst fears have been confirmed with attacking midfielder Andriy Yarmolenko set to miss the rest of the season due to an Achilles injury, according to a club insider.

Blogger ExWHUemployee – a reliable source of news on the Hammers – revealed via their personal Twitter account that the summer recruit will now be a no-show for the remainder of the campaign after suffering the massive blow in Saturday’s clash with Tottenham.

The 28-year-old flyer was stretchered off before the half-time whistle during the game with Spurs, and after reports suggesting a six month layoff, it is stated that he will not be expected to return before the season ends.

OPINION

Pellegrini could not have been handed worse news than this Yarmolenko update. Ever since he was handed his Premier League debut in the Irons’ first win against Everton a while ago, he has really hit his stride and he had begun to show people what he is all about. However, this news will no doubt be a major blow for Pellegrini, who already has Carlos Sanchez sidelined. The Hammers will miss his creativity immensely and there is no doubt that they will struggle in attack due to his absence. He is arguably one of West Ham’s best signings of the summer, and the difference that he could have made to their season would have been vital. However, the team will have to learn to cope without him for the rest of the season no matter how hard it will be. Yes, he provided that cutting edge in attack – but it will now be on someone else’s shoulders to provide that from now on.
