West Ham insider ExWHUemployee claimed that if Declan Rice had been offered a £40,000-a-week deal by the club then the player would have signed it.

The trusted club insider made the remark via their personal Twitter account when asked by a Hammers supporter whether there was any truth about the latest report regarding the teenager’s contract situation.

The Times reported on Tuesday that the Hammers had offered Rice a £40,000-per-week contract to sign last week but didn’t specify whether he had agreed to the deal.

The reportedly tabled offer would be a significant pay rise for the 19-year-old as he currently earns just £1,000-per-week (Source: Spotrac) despite featuring regularly in the first-team this season.

OPINION

Based on EXWHUemployee’s response, it seems likely that the Times’ report isn’t accurate as the Hammers will likely announce that Rice has signed as soon as he puts pen to paper on a new deal. There’s no way the Hammers first-teamer would hesitant signing a deal that would see him make an additional £39,000-a-week as that is a huge boost to his current salary. The London club are likely to announce a deal as soon as it’s concluded as they know supporters are chomping at the bit to hear that Rice’s future has been secured. The 19-year-old has established himself as a fan favourite at the London Stadium due to having risen from the club’s youth ranks and because has continued to deliver the goods at senior level. The centre-back, who is currently being deployed as a defensive midfielder by Manuel Pellegrini, has been fantastic in three out of four of his league outings this season, with him only struggling to cope with facing a rampant Liverpool side so far.
