Things have gone rather stale once again for West Ham after a resurgence in form under Manuel Pellegrini, with two losses on the trot now for the Hammers.

Not only did they lose these games to Brighton and Tottenham respectively, the Irons also failed to find the back of the net in either game.

Considering the fact that they spent a club-record fee on Felipe Anderson, £17.5million on Andriy Yarmolenko and £4million on Lucas Perez in the summer, that is worrying.

With Yarmolenko now likely to be out for the season and star striker Marko Arnautovic struggling with a chronic knee injury, the time has come for other players to step up for the club in attack.

As quoted by football.london, Pellegrini said: “Yes because maybe we are improving a lot of things every game but now we need to improve in the last third.”

Arnautovic has been carrying much of the workload so far this season, with his brilliant form masking their lack of productivity elsewhere across the forward line.

Anderson has shown signs of brilliance but is yet to prove himself fully yet, and his performance against Spurs at the weekend left a lot to be desired.

One player who did impress in that game was Javier Hernandez, who made his comeback after a spell on the sidelines through illness.

The Mexico international linked up very nicely with Arnautovic during his 33-minute cameo, and looked like he could be a threat for the Irons going forward.

Chicharito has disappointed massively during his time at the club, with the 30-year-old doing little to justify his £7,280,000-a-year wages [Spotrac].

His performance against Tottenham suggested that he still has it in him to perform at the highest level, and he may hold the key for the Hammers if they are to address Pellegrini’s concerns.

He could help alleviate the workload on Arnautovic, while also providing a partner for the Austria international when needed, and that is all West Ham need right now.
