West Ham would purely be motivated by money if they went ahead and sold attacker Robert Snodgrass in January.

Claret & Hugh reported on Friday that the Hammers could entertain offers for their 31-year-old right-winger as he could find himself surplus to requirements if Manuel Lanzini, Jack Wilshere, Declan Rice, Mark Noble, Pedro Obiang, Michail Antonio and Andriy Yarmolenko are all fit and ready to go in January.

The report claimed that while Snodgrass has done well in the early stages of the season, given that January is months away and there’s likely to be offers for him then the Hammers will have to consider his future.

However if the Hammers even have the smallest urge to consider selling Snodgrass  then it’s clear it’s not for footballing reason but due to being motivated by money.

Snodgrass, who earns a respectable £40,000-a-week at the London Stadium (Source: Spotrac), is no spring chicken and his market value is already dropping due to his age even if he wows with his displays for that reason.

The Hammers are no doubt aware of this and would probably like to cash-in on him while his price is at the highest, and after his admirable performances in his first six league outings of the season, there’s probably a few clubs willing to dig deep into their  pockets to pay a little above his current valuation.

Yet the rejuvenated ace who is currently looking the best he ever has in a West Ham shirt is not a player the club could do with losing.

While the names he is competing with for a first-team place are arguably more talented, apart from when it comes to set-pieces, only a handful of them have shown the same work-ethic and desire that Snodgrass has this season.

The veteran winger’s determination to put in a good performance and give his all for the team is a valuable quality that the Hammers need to have in their squad.

Therefore this all means that if the Hammers do go ahead and consider offers to see Snodgrass’ future lie elsewhere from January, it will be a decision motivated by money rather than what he can offer the team.
