Stephen Warnock shared that he worried about West Ham’s lack of squad depth after they beat Manchester United 3-1 on Saturday.

The BBC pundit heaped praise on the Hammers for their latest performance, in particular the display of midfielder Mark Noble, before sharing his concern.

Warnock stated that he didn’t mean to take anything away from the Hammers as their last three displays have been excellent but questioned how they would cope with losing one of their attacking players.

“Yeah their football today was superb, their inter-play, their little triangles that were created all over the pitch to get them out of trouble,” said Warnock on BBC 5 Live (Saturday September 29th 14:21).

“Mark Noble was immense just superb, my only worry about West Ham is, is how deep their squad is and if they lose Arnautovic for any period of time or any of the front three to how they deal with that.

“But take nothing away from them the last three performances from them have been excellent.”

OPINION

The Hammers defeated Man United 3-1 on Saturday in impressive style and Warnock is right to praise the club’s recent turn-around in form. However the pundit didn’t need to share his only concern at this stage as the Hammers should be allowed bask in their success while they can. Manuel Pellegrini’s side have miserable start to the 2018/19 campaign and should focus on the positives, now that they have discovered some. Warnock’s worry may be understandable as the Hammers don’t have fantastic depth in some positions, it perhaps wasn’t the time to voice his concerns. Hopefully Pellegrini is handed a bit of luck this season, at least until January when he can bring in reinforcements, by having the majority of his star players able to stay fit. Marko Arnautovic has already had some injury concerns this season so hopefully he won’t be revisiting the medical room anytime soon. However it is worth noting that Pellegrini is probably more concerned about his midfielders picking up injuries as that seems the area of the team that is short of the most numbers.
