West Ham United are open to the idea of striker Toni Martinez returning to the club if he can prove his worth while on loan in Spain, according to insider ExWHUemployee.

The club insider – who is a reliable source of news on the Hammers – revealed via a Twitter thread with a West Ham fan that after sending the 6’1″ [Transfermarkt] frontman out on loan to Spanish second tier side Rayo Majadahonda, they are not looking to get rid of him permanently after his summer exit.

The 21-year-old joined the Irons’ youth team in 2016, and has been farmed out to the likes of Oxford, Valencia and Real Valladolid over the past two years.

OPINION

Since joining the Hammers in the summer of 2016, Martinez has thoroughly impressed for the youth team. He netted a promising 19 goals throughout the last two years with the under-23 side, and that is form he can only carry with him while he plays in his home country of Spain. This shows glitters of ability that he can offer the Hammers if he ends up playing for them again, and that he is capable of playing in the Premier League if given the chance. However, this season he is just not up to scratch, especially with the wealth of attacking talent boss Manuel Pellegrini has bought in. Nevertheless, the fact the Irons may be open for his return is a promising sign for him – but his place in the first team is not going to be guaranteed. With his contract expiring next year, there are no promises in place to say that it will be renewed.
