A section of West Ham United fans have taken to Twitter to praise Robert Snodgrass’ performance when he came on as a substitute in yesterday’s game against Liverpool.

The Hammers’ were thumped 4-0 on Sunday afternoon by the Reds at Anfield, who ran riot with goals coming from Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Daniel Sturridge.

The midfielder came on for Declan Rice at the start of the second half, and was shortly joined on the pitch by Javier Hernandez and Andriy Yarmolenko to try and attempt to salvage something from the game.

Some Irons’ fans were on the whole pleased by the 30-year-old winger’s contribution, with one saying “he was our best player when he came on.”

OPINION

Even though West Ham did not get off to the greatest start yesterday afternoon, fans seem to think that Snodgrass was one of the positives to take from the game. He was not able to help them salvage something, but he showed the supporters that he deserves to be in an Irons’ shirt for the rest of the season. The midfielder definitely is not a starter in Manuel Pellegrini’s eyes, but he has the ability to switch the game up when he comes on, offering new ideas and a fresh pair of legs. Liverpool’s intensity undoubtedly ran West Ham ragged yesterday, and Snodgrass coming on must have been like a breath of fresh air. Based on these tweets, the Scotland international definitely deserves the chance to be playing more for the club, as he has taken the first steps by getting some of the fans on board. It may have been surprising to see him come on considering the amount of midfield talent the Hammers have acquired this summer, but certainly made a case for himself.
