Borussia Monchengladbach are not interested in a return for West Ham defender Reece Oxford as Bundesliga rivals Hannover 96 mull a swoop for the 19-year-old, according to Kicker.

The German football website report that a return to Monchengladbach, who have been linked with another move for the versatile enforcer, is not on the cards for Oxford.

Kicker claim that Hannover are however interested in his signature as they seek another centre-back, and are weighing up a move ahead of the European transfer deadline at the end of the month.

Club insider ExWHUemployee had previously reported that Monchengladbach were in the hunt for a return for Oxford, but they have now seemingly pulled out of the race.

OPINION

While Monchengladbach may have pulled out of the race to sign Oxford it still sounds as though there are Bundesliga teams interested in his signature. It may be slightly disappointing for Oxford to hear that his former club are not in to secure a return for him this season, but there are still positive signs that he will get the move away that he seems to want. The versatile youngster obviously made a good enough impression in Monchengladbach for other Bundesliga sides to take notice, and that is something to be proud of. On the other hand, it is a shame in many ways that Oxford’s West Ham career has stalled, with it looking unlikely that he will make a first-team breakthrough at any point soon. The 19-year-old has always been rated very highly at the London Stadium and his promising Premier League debut against Arsenal a few seasons ago showed his vast potential to the whole country. Oxford has however failed to kick on from there, and looks destined for a return to the Bundesliga in the coming weeks.
