West Ham must end their pursuit of Besiktas defender Domagoj Vida once and for all as it would be foolish to spend anywhere near £26.6million on him.

According to Turkish outlet Fanatik  the Hammers are thought be working on a new offer for the 29-year-old centre-back after AS Monaco bid £26.6million for the player’s services.

The report claimed that Besiktas were waiting for Manuel Pellegrini’s side to submit their next offer before deciding what to do with the currently tabled bid from Monaco.

Hopefully while putting together their next proposal, the Hammers come to their senses and abandon their pursuit of Vida.

The 29-year-old’s market value appears to have skyrocketed due to his impressive performances at the World Cup for Croatia and Besiktas are seemingly getting away with demanding huge amounts of money for their defender.

Given that Vida is 29-years-old and has never played in the Premier League then the Hammers would not only be gambling on his ability to instantly flourish in England, they will be investing a lot money in a potential short-term option.

While Pellegrini may want to add another central defender to his squad, as he is no doubt aware that the Hammers shipped goals last season, there are cheaper and better options on the market.

The Hammers might just have to match Monaco’s £26.6million bid rather than offer more than the French side to get Vida but that is still too much to pay for enforcer.

If the Hammers do end up matching Monaco’s offer then they will be fools as the right decision is clearly for them to abort their pursuit and go after another option.
