West Ham must spoil Fulham’s reported pursuit of midfielder Hector Herrera by poaching his services for themselves.

According to Portuguese publication Record the Cottagers are well on the way towards signing the 28-year-old from FC Porto this summer as not only have they submitted a proposal for his services, their manager Slavisa Jokanovic has already spoken to the player about his desire to sign him.

Therefore the Hammers need to act fast to ruin the Cottagers’ attempts to get Herrera as the pass master would be a fantastic signing for Manuel Pellegrini to make this summer.

The 28-year-old was previously reported by Correio da Manha, translated by Sport Witness,as being on the Hammers radar earlier in the transfer window and was believed to be available to purchase for just £13million.

Herrera aside from being a fantastic passer of the ball with wonderful creative vision is also a capable tackler and regularly wins the ball for his side when it’s in the air.

This all around ability sees him able to be deployed as an attacking or defensive midfielder which means his arrival would give Pellegrini options on how to use him.

The Hammers currently lack a defensive-minded midfielder who would add a steely presence to their midfield and Herrera’s recruitment would see this need met.

The 28-year-old showcased all of his promising attributes during his 42 appearances for Porto last season, where he racked up seven assists, and was a standout performer for Mexico during the 2018 World Cup.

It’s clear that Fulham, who already appear to be having an excellent summer, would be significantly boosted by his arrival and the Hammers must not allow their Premier League rivals to win the race for Herrera’s services especially when he’d improve Pellegrini’s current options.

This all means that the Hammers must spoil Fulham’s reported pursuit of the Mexican pass master by securing his services before they do.
