West Ham have made contact over signing Torino attacker M’Baye Niang, according to Gazzetta Dello Sport.

The Italian newspaper claim that the Hammers, Spartak Moscow and Everton have inquired about the 23-year-old forward’s availability but that he will most likely to end up being signed by Ligue 1 club Nice.

Gazzetta Dello Sport report that there has also been some interest shown by Arsenal in Niang but that Torino are yet to receive an official proposal from any side in the hunt for his services.

OPINION

The Hammers could do with a new attacker to cover the loss of Andy Carroll to injury but Niang would hardly be the most exciting option to pursue. The 6ft tall forward (Transfermarket) only managed to score four goals in 31 games for Torino last season and hardly set the Premier League alight when he previously played in England. Niang had a brief loan spell at Watford where he made 16 appearances for them in England’s top-flight, scoring only two goals in his appearances. The 23-year-old seem to settle in quickly at the Hornets but his decent start to life in the Premier League soon faded as he struggled to deliver the goods. It is worth noting that Watford opted not to sign the player permanently following his loan spell and sent him quickly back to AC Milan once his loan deal with them expired. While the young forward has a lot of attributes going for him, the Hammers can surely find a more proven Premier League talent to recruit this summer.
