West Ham have received a £7.9million offer for midfielder Pedro Obiang from Serie A side Sampdoria, according to Gianluca Di Marzio.

The Sky Sports Italy reporter stats  via his official website, that the Italian side are currently waiting for the Hammers to respond to their offer.

Gianluca Di Marzio reports that while Sampdoria aren’t sure whether Manuel Pellegrini’s side are going to accept the offer, they have got a five-year contract ready for Obiang to sign.

Sky Sports previously reported that Sampodria were in advanced talks with the Hammers over a deal for the midfielder but the fee being discussed was thought to be in the region of £8.9million.

OPINION

It seems Obiang to Sampdoria is looking more and more likely with each passing day. The 6ft 1in tall midfielder (Transfermarkt) will no doubt be tempted to return to his former side especially if they’re willing to tie him to a five-year deal. Obiang suffered a frustrating knee injury last season and might take comfort in a club guaranteeing his long-term future on the back of an injury effected season. The 26-year-old clearly would still be an asset to Pellegrini’s side if he is kept around and it will be a shame to watch him depart. However if that seemingly likely scenario happens then hopefully the Hammers are quick to bring in a replacement. Pellegrini’s squad could do with a tough tackling defensive midfielder to add an extra layer of protection to the defence but it’s worth nothing that they are hard to find for a reasonable price. Therefore if Obiang is going to depart then perhaps the Hammers need to demand more than £7.9million in order to ensure they have enough to bring in a suitable replacement.
