West Ham are in the hunt to sign Rangers midfielder Josh Windass, according to the Daily Mail

The national newspaper’s live transfer blog (Tuesday, 13:20) claims that the 24-year-old attacking midfielder was lining up a return to England as he wasn’t convinced that he was set to play a pivotal role at the Gers this season.

The Daily Mail report that the Hammers, along with Burnley, West Bromwich Albion and Aston Villa were keen on signing Windass with Rangers wanting £3million for his services.

It is believed that while Windass has a £3million price tag, the offers that are expected to come in for him are predicted to be below that amount.

OPINION

Windass’s 2017/18 stats are certainly worth drooling over as he was involved with helping his side score 26 goals in his 41 appearances for them. The 24-year-old scored 18, while assisting eight, and those sort of numbers definitely make him sound like an enticing prospect. However given that the Scottish Premiership is perceived to be a lower level of football than the English Premier League, then it’s hard to know if he can deliver the goods in England’s top-flight. When the 24-year-old previously played his football in England, he was featuring for Accrington Stanley in League 2 so it’s hard to know if he has really developed enough at Ibrox in order to be a Premier League ready player. However given that his price tag makes him a potential bargain due to the transfer market being flooded with inflated valuations then it wouldn’t be the worst move to give him a chance. Clearly if Manuel Pellegrini brought Windass to the London Stadium this summer then he would be used as cover for the first-team, which would give him time to find his feet and adjust to the Premier League accordingly.
