Some West Ham fans on social media heaped praise on their club for deciding to trigger the release clause of Corinthians defender Fabian Balbuena.
The Brazilian club confirmed via their official website that the Hammers had triggered the defender’s release clause and that he was on his way to London for a medical.
Several supporters generally praised the idea of the 26-year-old enforcer being signed by the club after reliable Hammers insider ExWHUemployee, via Twitter, first stated that Manuel Pellegrini’s side were believed to have triggered the player’s release clause.
We have now paid the release clause! So this transfer has moved forward significantly! Personal terms and permits need to be obtained https://t.co/zuaCvRFzzG

The club insider went on to reveal that Balbuene’s release clause was believed to be in the region of £3.5million and this had one Hammers fan claim that he was an absolute steal at that price.

Known as best CB in Brazil so it’s a big gamble but could have some player on our hands

OPINION
West Ham may have conducted some smart business if some of these fans’ tweets are anything to by. As the Corinthians had confirmed that their defender was now on his way to London for a medical so it seems supporters will be even more thrilled in the coming days as he’ll likely be confirmed as a new signing if all goes well. Balbuena has never played in Europe during his career so it will be interesting if he can successfully make the transition however given his price there is little risk to this deal. If the Hammers have secured his services for in the region of £3.5million then they hardly will be haunted by their mistake if he turns out unable to cope with the demands of England’s Premier League.
