Rio Ferdinand took to social media in order to wish West Ham attacker Marcus Browne good luck on his loan spell at Oxford United.

The former Hammers defender handed the 20-year-old attacking midfielder a simple piece of advice, via his personal Twitter account, ahead of next season by telling him to work hard and express himself.

The Hammers confirmed via their official websiteĀ on Tuesday that Browne was joining League One’s Oxford United on a season-long loan with him seeking some valuable first-team experience.

OPINION

Ferdinand knows all about reaching the highest-level of football and while his adviceĀ may be basic, it’s worth Browne paying attention to. The 20-year-old winger is a pivotalĀ stage of his career as it’s important that he regularly tastes senior football in order to fulfilĀ his promising potential. Browne has only experienced one loan spell away from the Hammers previously when at Wigan AthleticĀ and he only made one appearance for them. Hopefully his time with Oxford United sees him kick a football way more than his bizarre time at Wigan as he is reaching an age where he needs to start proving his talents. The talented youngster has only appeared once for the Hammers’ senior side in his career and will no doubt be eager to break through into the first-team set-up as quickly as possible. While succeeding in League One won’t instantly see him enter Manuel Pellegrini’s plans upon returning, it will at the very least put him on the manager’s radar as one to potentially keep an eye on.
