West Ham United boss Manuel Pellegrini is on the hunt for an alternative striker to round off his huge summer of spending, and there looks to be a big opportunity for the club to secure a player with vast Premier League experience this summer.

As reported by TEAMtalk, Arsenal striker Danny Welbeck has been informed he is not part of Unai Emery’s long-term plans at the Emirates, with Newcastle United lining up a loan offer for the 27-year-old, who earns more than £100,000-a-week.

Welbeck has just a year left on his deal with the Gunners, and there is no reason why the Hammers could not either hijack Newcastle’s loan bid or put in a permanent offer, which Arsenal would much prefer.

The strikers that are seemingly on West Ham’s radar so far are from overseas, and that obviously poses questions over adapting to the Premier League and life in England.

Welbeck would not have to do that at all, in fact, he would not even have to leave London, and it is therefore a move which makes sense for all parties.

West Ham would be getting a quality striker who would add a lot to their attacking options, while Welbeck would be joining a team on the up where he would be involved in the first-team picture.

The Hammers would also not have to deal with integrating a foreign player into the club environment, a process that can sometimes take a whole season.

Newcastle’s financial limitations this summer mean that the Hammers would surely be able to outmuscle the Magpies if they did attempt to hijack the deal, and that is what they must do in the coming days.

It is a move which makes sense in every way possible, and Pellegrini must now recognise that before it’s too late and Welbeck is heading north to Tyneside.
