West Ham will make a second bid for Newcastle United captain Jamaal Lascelles despite having their recent £25million offer rejected for him, according to the Daily Mirror.

The newspaper claim that Manuel Pellegrini wants to continue revamping the Hammers’ squad after it battled relegation last season and the club are stepping up their transfer activity.

The Daily Mirror report that Everton are competing with the Hammers for Lascelles’ signature even though the Magpies insist that their captain is not for sale.

Despite this stance by the Magpies, it’s believed that the Hammers are ready to make a fresh bid for the player’s services.

The Hammers have already seen Issa Diop, Ryan Fredericks, Lukasz Fabianski and Jack Wilshere arrive at the London Stadium this summer but it seems Pellegrini is poised to welcome even more new recruits this summer. The Daily Mirror claim that Borussia Dortmund winger Andriy Yarmolenko is poised to complete a £17.5million switch to the club which will significantly boost the club’s attacking threat on the flanks. However it’s clear that after leaking so many goals in the Premier League last season, the Hammers’ defence could still do with having some new faces arrive to improve it. There are few better options for the club to look to sign than Lascelles. The centre-back, who currently earns £40,000-a-week (Source: Spotrac), won’t be a cheap option but given his Premier League experience and the fact he’s only 24, he’d be a fantastic signing. Lascelles was excellent during his 35 appearances last season and it’s easy to see that he’d be a player capable of excelling at the London Stadium for many seasons to come.
