West Ham are interested in signing Sevilla midfielder Franco Vazquez, according to Tuttomercatoweb.

The Italian news outlet claim that contact between the two clubs is ongoing and that there is confidence from the UK that a deal can be successfully negotiated for the 6ft 1in (Transfermarkt) attacking midfielder’s services.

Tuttomercatoweb report that a deal for Vazquez is destined to take off and that the Hammers believe the 29-year-old is the right player to target in their hunt for reinforcements.

OPINION

Vazquez may be a different type of attacking midfielder to Manuel Lanzini but it seems likely that the Hammers are trying to sign him due to their current Lanzini’s injury. The 29-year-old midfielder was involved in 13 goals in his 2017/18 campaign as he scored five goals and registered eight assists across the 44 games he featured in for Sevilla last season. Vazquez will be a useful signing due to his versatility as he has previously shown in his career that he can play on either wing as well as a central midfielder if required. The player’s versatility should give Manuel Pellegrini plenty of options when it comes to deciding how to use him. Vazquez may not be proven in the Premier League but given his previous experience of playing in the Champions League, Serie A and La Liga, he should be able to adapt to playing in England’s top-flight relatively quickly. The only reason why the Hammers shouldn’t pursue with this deal is if his price turns out to be too steep as there are plenty of attacking midfielders for them to check out on the current transfer market.
