West Ham boss Manuel Pellegrini has held face-to-face talks with Jack Wilshere regarding a potential move to the London Stadium for the midfielder, according to the Daily Mail.

The newspaper report that the two discussed the way in which Wilshere would slot into the Chilean’s plans at West Ham, with the 26-year-old free agent deliberating his next move after leaving Premier League rivals Arsenal.

The Mail claim that Turkish Super Lig side Fenerbahce have tabled a lucrative contract offer for Wilshere, but the Hammers are now likely to table a bid worth less in the hope he will want to stay in England.

It is said that Wilshere’s decision will not solely be based on finances, with the midfielder having family in London and eyeing up a return to the England fold under Gareth Southgate.

Good move for West Ham?

Yes.

Wilshere is a solid Premier League midfielder who would add a new dimension to a flagging Hammers midfield which is in need of reinforcement.

The former Arsenal man will be raring to prove himself at a new club after taking the decision to leave the Gunners, and West Ham look to be a perfect environment for him to impress once again.

The main issue here will obviously be injuries, with Wilshere having a less-than-enviable record of sitting on the sidelines, but the fact that he is available for free means that the club should take a risk on him this summer.

Likely to happen?

You would think that the Hammers are in with a good chance of landing the 26-year-old after these talks.

Wilshere was obviously devastated by Southgate’s decision to leave him out of the World Cup squad, and remaining in England will give him the best chance of returning to the international picture.

A stay in London is also the easiest move with regards to his family, and the signs are looking positive for the Irons.
