Keeping hold of sought-after players is often a difficult task for many managers, especially when they are being chased by one of the biggest clubs in Europe – which is exactly the case West Ham seemed to find themselves in.

According to Sky Sports, the Hammers’ young midfield enforcer Domingos Quina has been targeted by Barcelona in a potential £600,000 deal, something the Irons were reportedly open to, as he heads into the final year of his contract.

However, as reported by the same outlet, Manuel Pellegrini’s side have now performed a u-turn, and are set to offer the central enforcer a new deal to convince him to stay at the London Stadium,

By offering the 18-year-old a new deal, West Ham have played a blinder – they are now potentially keeping one of their brightest young talents on the books for the forseeable future, and can only reap the rewards.

When they were willing to sell the talented prospect to the La Liga giants, they were evidently unaware of the potential he had – something which Barcelona spotted at their potential expense.

It would have been right to question why one of the biggest clubs in Europe were so keen on signing the talented teenager, but now the Irons have come to their senses and realised what they could have lost.

Quina is a player who is technically gifted on the ball, and looks to have the talent of a player far beyond his years, a quality that is not often found in players of his age.

If he joined Barcelona it is likely that he would have been loaned out to a smaller team to gain enough experience to star in their first team full of world-class players, but at West Ham, he will not have that pressure to perform at such a high standard at his age.

Being able to create goals as well as score them, West Ham are definitely on to something great here – and they must hand him the opportunity to shine.
