West Ham are considering making a move for Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes, according to Knees up Mother Brown.

The dedicated Hammers website claim that the 23-year-old is one of a number of players hoping to leave the Portuguese giants for free this summer.

Knees up Mother Brown report that due to Fernandes potentially hoping to move on a free transfer this has perhaps alerted David Sullivan to the player’s situation with the co-owner now investigating the possibility of signing the 23-year-old.

Good move for West Ham?

Yes.

Fernandes would be a fantastic attacking midfielder to welcome to the club and would help the Hammers cope without Manuel Lanzini who looks set to miss a significant amount of action through injury.

The 23-year-old scored 16 goals, while creating 20, in his 56 outings for Sporting last season and has recently impressed at the World Cup.

Fernandes has featured twice for Portugal in the tournament so far and has shown enough glimpses of his ability in the 88 minutes he has played at the tournament to suggest he would make a positive impact at the London Stadium.

Hopefully Sullivan finds out that a deal is possible for the midfielder when investigating the chances of signing him as given the player’s scenario he could be a bargain.

Likely to happen?

Hard to say as his situation at Sporting is unclear.

As Knees up Mother Brown state after a group of fans allegedly attacked several Lisbon players while they trained in May then there could be a lot of promising talent available to sign for free from the Portuguese giants.

However Sporting haven’t confirmed that they are set to cancel anyone’s contract as it stands so a move for Fernandes could be off the cards.

The sublime midfielder’s current deal still has a substantial amount of time left to run on it as it isn’t due to expire until 2022.

It seems the only way the Hammers will have any chance of signing Fernandes this summer, would be if his contract is cancelled and it’s unknown whether that situation will occur at this time.

At this stage the player is no doubt one of many on the club’s radar as they look to sign an attacking midfielder this summer.
