Manuel Lanzini took to his official Instagram account to post a detailed message in order to deny a recent report about his injury.

The Daily Mirror reported that the important Hammers midfielder was set to miss 15 months of action after picking up a knee injury while training with Argentina ahead of the World Cup.

The national newspaper stated that after being told that he could make it back in time to feature in the 2018/19 season following surgery on his knee, that he was unfortunately going to be out longer than first thought.

“Some English media have said that my injury will make me miss next season, that there were problems with the surgery… none of this is true,” wrote Lanzini in his Instagram post.

“The surgery went really well, although I don’t want to set a date, I expect to be ready to play at the beginning of 2019, that’s my goal for the next months, thank you all for your support.”

OPINION

This is a promising update by Lanzini as the Mirror’s worrying report would have caused fans to fear the worst about the player’s injury. There’s no denying that the playmaker has suffered a serious injury and will miss a significant amount of time but the thought of the club being without him for 15 months is one that supporters would rather not have. Lanzini is a fantastic player and proved in his 29 outings last season that the team excel when he is able to showcase his talents. It seems the midfielder is determined to keep a positive attitude regarding his set-back and while he won’t directly put a date on his return, he is willing to boldly claim that he expects to feature from the start of 2019. Lanzini will no doubt work day and night in order to get back for Manuel Pellegrini’s side as quickly as possible and he needs to stay positive about his chances of doing that in order for it to become a reality.
