West Ham United will receive the preliminary results on Manuel Lanzini’s knee injury on Friday after the player underwent surgery in Spain, according to Claret and Hugh.

The Hammers news website report that the Argentina international was operated on by pioneering surgeon Dr. Ramon Cugat on Thursday evening after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligaments, and has spent the night at Barcelona’s Hospital Quiron.

Claret and Hugh claim that West Ham’s newly-appointed head of medical, Richard Collinge, is now set to visit the 25-year-old on Friday, with the key man set to be discharged soon to begin his rehabilitation.

It is said that the Hammers will receive some initial results and prognosis from doctors today, but the actual recovery period will not be clear for some time yet.

OPINION

West Ham will be hoping for the best when Collinge receives the initial prognosis from doctors following his surgery. Initial suggestions before surgery raised hopes of the injury not being as bad as first feared, but the true situation will only be known to those who conducted the surgery. The usual recovery time from such an injury is between six and nine months, so the best that West Ham could possibly hope for is a return around Christmas time for Lanzini. While this is a massive blow for the club, thoughts must be spared for Lanzini himself. The 25-year-old playmaker was set to star for Argentina in his first World Cup, and has had that opportunity torn from him at the last minute after suffering this injury in training. He was also set for a big role under new boss Manuel Pellegrini, who is now being forced to reassess his summer plans after the injury blow.
