West Ham United are seriously interested in a move for Napoli striker Roberto Inglese, according to Calcio Napoli 24.

The Italian outlet report that West Ham are prepared to offer £15.8million with a further £1.7million in performance-related add-ons in a deal that could end up at the £17.5million mark.

Calcio Napoli 24 claim that new Napoli boss Carlo Ancelotti is set to run the rule over the 26-year-old upon his return from a loan spell at Chievo Verona before deciding on his future.

It is said that Bologna and Sporting Lisbon are also in the hunt for the 6ft 1in forward [Transfermarkt].

Good move for West Ham?

It is tough to say.

Inglese had an impressive loan spell at Verona in 2017/18, scoring 13 goals in 36 appearances in all competitions as they managed a respectable 13th-placed finish.

The 26-year-old obviously has talent, but there would be questions over whether he could translate that to the Premier League, having not been massively prolific so far in his career.

For the Hammers to splash out £17.5million on a striker they need to be sure he will make an impact, and that is unfortunately not the case with Inglese.

Likely to happen?

According to the report, the club are seriously interested in a deal, and with a price already seemingly in mind, it would suggest there is something in this.

However, Ancelotti is yet to assess the 26-year-old in pre-season, and a move would surely have to wait a few weeks for that to happen.

West Ham also have several other targets in mind, and therefore a move, if it does materialise, will not happen for a while.
