West Ham United have opened talks with Chelsea about the possibility of taking a midfielder on loan this summer, according to a club insider

ExWHUemployee, who is a reliable source for exclusive Hammers information, claimed in a column on the West Ham Way that the club were eyeing up a temporary move for one of Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Ross Barkley, or Danny Drinkwater.

It is reported that at least one of the midfield trio is expected to leave Stamford Bridge this summer, with the Hammers hoping to secure a loan with a view to a permanent deal down the line.

Good move for West Ham?

Absolutely.

Any of these three would be a brilliant signing for the Hammers, while they all would also help the club meet their quota for English players in the upcoming season.

The ideal move here would be for Loftus-Cheek, who is developing into one of the country’s best young players, but either Barkley or Drinkwater would both be fantastic additions.

Midfield is an area which desperately needs strengthening this summer, and signing any of these players would be the perfect way to do that.

Likely to happen?

It looks like at least one of the three will be let go this summer, but in truth all three of them could end up leaving Stamford Bridge.

Loftus-Cheek has come out and said he wants to be given regular football next season, and Barkley and Drinkwater have both hardly played at all during their first terms at the club.

West Ham therefore look in a brilliant position to sign the one player they want, with the identity of that player all that’s left to be decided.
