West Ham fans have delivered mixed verdicts on Twitter after the club handed a new contract to midfielder Moses Makasi.

The Hammers revealed on their official website and Twitter account this week that Makasi, 22, has penned a new one-year deal to extend his association with the club beyond 13 years.

The central midfielder joined West ham at the age of nine and has progressed through the ranks to place himself on the verge of breaking into the first team.

Makasi captained the club’s Under-23s in Premier League 2 in the first half of the recently-completed season before joining League One outfit Plymouth Argyle on loan in the second half of the campaign.

He was regularly selected until he suffered a knee injury that ruled him out of the final weeks of the season and will sideline him at least until the middle of September.

Given that he turns 23 in three months, some West Ham fans believe he has run out of time to make it at the club while others claim he is a quality player, with one hailing him as better than first teamer Manuel Lanzini.
