Michail Antonio is set to quit West Ham this summer after being made surplus to requirements by Manuel Pellegrini, according to Team Talk.

The football site claim the versatile winger, 28, does not figure in the plans of the recently-appointed manager even though he signed a new five-year contract with the club only in May of last year.

Team Talk claim West Ham will listen to offers for Antonio and are already in talks with Crystal Palace over a summer transfer, while there is also interest from Newcastle United, Bournemouth and newly-promoted Wolves.

OPINION

For a player who has spent most of his professional career in the lower leagues, Antonio has done remarkably well for himself. He made a surprisingly big impact for West Ham after being signed from Nottingham Forest three years ago, with his charisma, Tigger-like energy, brilliant headers and inventive celebrations enough to make him a terrace hero, not to mention nearly secure him an England cap. He was called up a season or two back, but did not get selected for the team. West Ham handed Antonio a long-term deal a year ago after he scored nine league goals in 2016-17, but that now appears useful only as a device to get a decent transfer fee. There will be plenty of buyers for Antonio – players who can deliver the goods at full-back, wide midfield and either in secondary striker or even centre-forward role don’t grow on trees – but he lacks the touch and class for the new West Ham guided by Pellegrini.
