West Ham are working on a deal to sign Paris Saint-Germain playmaker Javier Pastore – but his salary is proving a major hurdle, according to BBC Sport.

The broadcaster claim on their website that recently-appointed Hammers manager Manuel Pellegrini wants to sign Pastore as he looks to reinforce his team’s attack.

BBC Sport report Pastore will need to lower his salary demands for West Ham to seal his signature as his current salary is “beyond” the club’s pay scale.

Ex-WHU Employee, a reliable source of news about the London club, has claimed Pastore earns an eyewatering £190,000-a-week in France.

OPINION

You can see why West Ham can’t afford to match Pastore’s salary. £190,000-a-week works out at £10million-a-year, £3million-a-year more than current top earner Javier Hernandez, who is said to be on around £130,000-a-week. If a deal is to be done – and don’t rule it out quite yet – then the brilliant Argentine will need to significantly reduce his pay demands. He is the A-list talent that West Ham are crying out for, especially following Manuel Lanzini’s shattering injury blow. The team will need a player next season who can dictate the play and knit midfield and attack. Pastore has the quality to do that and would be the most exciting Hammers signing since Dimitri Payet, should co-owner David Sullivan and new recruitment chief Mario Husillos be able to secure a deal. His CV speaks for itself, and it is a measure of his ability that he played regularly last season for PSG despite the world-record arrivals of Neymar and Kylian Mbappe.
