West Ham fans on social media shared their utter despair after hearing that key player Manuel Lanzini was ruled of the World Cup with a serious knee injury.

Argentina’s official Twitter account stated, once translated through the social media outlet, that the Hammers playmaker had ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, during a training session with his nation.

According to a follow up report by the Daily Mail on the huge blow for Lanzini, the newspaper claimed that due to the severity of the injury he has apparently suffered he could miss the opening games of the Hammers’ 2018-19 season too.

The injury news regarding one of the Hammers’ key players sent the club’s supporters into turmoil on Twitter as they worried about him missing playing time next season.

One supporter of the London-based club described the injury as horrific and that the club needed to now sign Joao Mario as his replacement, while another feared the knee problem could keep Lanzini on the sidelines for a year.

The 25-year-old attacking midfielder regularly featured for the Hammers in their 2017/18 campaign as he made 29 appearances across all competitions.

During his outings, Lanzini contributed five goals, while assisting nine, to help the club steer away from the Premier League’s relegation zone.
