West Ham are in the hunt for Norwich City midfielder James Maddison, according to a club insider.

Twitter account ExWHUemployee, a trusted source of Hammers information, was asked about the club’s reported pursuit of the 21-year-old attacking midfielder and shared on Friday that he was an option the club were looking at.

The insider revealed that while the Hammers were keen on Maddison, he wasn’t a definite target for the club to pursue at this stage just an option being looked at.

OPINION

Well there’s a least a small chance that the Hammers will bid for Maddison in this window. According to an earlier report by the Daily Mirror Manuel Pellegrini’s side were ready to firm up their interest after previously tracking the playmaker’s progress. The national newspaper stated that he was seen as being worth £25million but given the interest in him, the Hammers would probably have to pay a slightly higher fee than that to get him. The Mirror list Fulham, Leicester City and Everton as being in the hunt for his signature but after scoring 15 goals in 49 appearances in his 2017/18 campaign, there are surely even more teams ready to launch an offer for his services. While it’s exciting that the Hammers are keen on the promising midfielder with him not being a definite target at this time, it seems they’re likely to miss out as other teams are no doubt focusing on getting his signature. So with the insider revealing the Hammers’ current stance maybe fans should not get too excited about the prospect of Maddison at the London Stadium just yet.
